SOL ARCHER (b. 1983, JP) MFA Piet Zwart Institute.
Sol investigates sites at which global narratives are expressed by their effects on local conditions. Working primarily with the moving image, he mixes documentary and fiction techniques to map traces left by abstract structures in scarred bodies, turned earth, industrial aesthetics, memory, and anecdote. At the Jan van Eyck Academie Sol has been researching futurism, sci-fi, and utopia as a field of really-existing-fictions which reflect and are critical towards the circumstances of their time. He is collaborating with a group of young adults to produce a film about science-fiction, using role-play game structures and seeking to imagine alternative worlds within the cracks of this one.
