Matthew C. Wilson
MATTHEW C. WILSON (b. 1982, US) holds an MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University. He has been a participant in the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program and various residencies including Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and Fondazione Antonio Ratti/CSAV – Artists Research Laboratory. Wilson’s sculptures, videos, and actions occupy a space between rational and ritual encounters with mercurial materials, sites, and histories. A NEARCH project fellow, supported by the European Commission, Wilson currently works in archaeological contexts — collections, laboratories, and excavations — throughout the UK and Europe. Moving away from an archaeology that places humans at its centre, Wilson engages with the entanglements, from metabolic to ecological, of an anthropos ensnared in deep time’s surreal dimensions.
